The Queensland Responsible Gambling Strategy is based on a public health approach which views problem gambling as a complex issue requiring multiple solutions. It includes early intervention and prevention, consumer protection and rehabilitation initiatives.
The Promotion, Early Intervention & Prevention initiatives underpin policies which are designed to:
- promote responsible gambling;
- prevent gambling related problems within the general community and within at-risk groups; and
- provide interventions targeting people showing signs of gambling related problems.
Promoting Responsible Gambling
Queensland was the first state in Australia to introduce messages designed to prevent problem gambling.
Launched on 17 April 2005, the Responsible Gambling Community Awareness Campaign aimed to promote responsible gambling.
The campaign's success was recognised on 11 October 2006 when it was announced as the recipient of the National award for Social Marketing in the Australian Marketing Institutes' Awards for Marketing Excellence.

Educating young people
The development of education resources for introduction into the Queensland school environment is a key strategy for preventing problem gambling.
In October 2004, the Queensland Government released the Responsible Gambling Teaching Resource Kit.
The kit was distributed free of charge to all schools in the State.
In 2006, six new education modules were developed for Years 1-10 Mathematics and Senior Maths A and B.
In 2007, a free professional development program was offered to teachers around the State.
