Self exclusion
From 1 May 2005, all gambling providers have a duty to exclude a patron when the patron requests to be self-excluded.
If you believe that you need to exclude yourself from a venue or venues then here are some key points that you should be aware of:
-
you can seek assistance to self-exclude either with the venue's Customer Liaison Officer or you can approach your local Gambling Help service for advice and assistance
-
if you approach the venue they will provide you with information about your nearest Gambling Help provider
-
you will be required to complete some documentation for the venue
-
as part of that process you may be able to elect to be excluded from the whole venue or just from the gaming areas. This will depend on the venue.
-
you have 24 hours to change your mind. If you do change your mind you must inform the venue within the 24 hour period
-
once an exclusion order becomes official then it must remain in place for a minimum of 12 months
-
to have the the self-exclusion order revoked after 12 months you must complete a revocation order to have it lifted.
-
if no application to revoke the exclusion is received then the exclusion stays in place for a maximum of 5 years and then automatically expires.
-
there are penalties if you breach an exclusion order. The venue is required to remove you from the premises and you may be prosecuted.
Need more information
If you would like more information on self-exclusion you can talk to the Customer Liaison Officer at your local venue or you can contact your local Gambling Help service.
Every hotel, club and casino has also been given brochures which they can give you so you can gather more information. Ask your local venue for a copy.
